Sweet Slouchy Hat

posted September 30, 2009 in knitting [1 comment]

IMG_3113I’ve had the Star Crossed Slouchy Hat in my Ravelry queue for awhile but I didn’t have any particularl plans to make it. Then 2 things happened – the weather turned fall-like and it started popping up in everyone’s Ravelry activity stream. So I frogged my Shifting Sands scarf, which I had set aside after doing about 2.5 feet because I wasn’t sure I liked a 1 sided scarf. Turns out I didn’t, so I was happy to recover the yarn for this project. Plus I think the dark red will look good with my dark brown hair.

See ya Shifting Sands Scarf

The yarn I used was a lovely, squishy Malabrigo Worsted in Col China. I used the size 10 and 11 needles as called for in the pattern but I cast on 81 instead of 72 to make up for my giant head. I also wanted more of a slouchy hat than a beret so I didn’t do the increases. This means that I skipped the first 2 decreases and just did 1 row of k8, k2tog to get down to 72 stitches. From there I followed the pattern.

It was a quick knit. I cast on and did the rib right before I went to bed on Monday night, and I finished the rest up last night while I watched the Yankees game/DWTS.

My Slouchy Hat turned out super slouchy. If I pulled the bottom down it would go past my chin. I think it looks pretty good on but it might be a touch too big. I’m going to wear it a bit and decide if I want to try to shrink it again. I think if I made another I would probably either just go with the 72 stitches and not increase or use size 10.5 or 10s instead of 11s.
