Already thinking Halloween Costumes

posted October 2, 2009 in sewing [1 comment]

It’s only October 2nd and I’m already thinking about my Halloween costume. I don’t even know what I would wear it to…but I know what I’ll be wearing. But I’m not quite ready to reveal it to the world yet, but don’t worry it will be awesome.

I have gotten a rep as someone who does great costumes. I guess doing costume design in college will do that to you. So every year I feel like I have to do something great or people will be disappointed. It’s can be a burden when all you want to do is wear and orange sweatshirt and be a pumpkin.

My most crazy costume was a re-creation of Nini’s dress in Moulin Rouge. I hand painted the windmills on it and sewed dozens of rows of lace inside the skirt.

Anyway I think the best costumes are those that are relevant to current pop culture. My one for 2009 definitely is. Although I do have to say that it is my dream to have a full Jem & the Holograms + the Misfits group together. Me and 2 friends dressed up as the misfits for an 80’s costume but only our Stormer was any good. I buy “Jem” fabric whenever I come across it in store for that magnificent day. So far I’ve found the perfect fabric to make Roxy’s pants. Some day…

we really are sisters, one of these years we need to find 7 other ladies who want to be part of the group. Jem was my best halloween costume EVER.
