Battle Lost – The Owl Sweater

A box of yarn arrived the other day and I was eager to start knitting my Owls sweater. It took me about five tries to get my cast on right (I wasn’t focusing the first 4 times). This should have been a clue that this was not going to work out well. I used Knit Picks Swish Bulky in Squirrel Heather (squirrels are evil – another hint) and size 10 & 10.5 needles. Knitting this went so quickly that I’d used up 2 skeins in a matter of hours.  But it just didn’t look right – even though I had gauge the fabric was way too loose. So I took it off the needles and tried it on. What should have been a fitted sweater looked like a baggy sweatshirt. So I frogged.

First Try at the Owl sweater

To begin with I was a little worried because generally the bulkier you are the less bulky yarns you should use. So I looked through the Ravelry Projects for Owl and found some women who are about the same size as me and the sweater looked good on them too.  On a side note the Projects section of Ravelry is an amazing tool. You can filter it so you can find people who knit the same size as you or used the same yarn.

I lost this battle but I can still win the war.  I can make this work. I just need to try it with smaller needles.
