The Overpass Cowl Free Pattern

posted November 5, 2009 in knitting, patterns [2 comments]

I’m in love with cowls right now. They are simple and easy to wear. Best of all they knit up quick. Here is the first in a series of quick and easy cowls. You can easily knit these up in a night or two and the patterns are easy to remember!

Overpass Cowl

Pick a luxe super bulky yarn and you’ll have a great Christmas gift. I used Spud & Chloë Chunky in Flannel and used up a ball and half. This yarn is a blend of merino wool and organic cotton and it has a washed out look that feels super soft and broken in.

The yarn is sturdy enough so that if you pull it up it will stay up but with the way the rows are knit it nicely squishes down too. It’s totally reversible too so you can fold it over or flip it inside out depending on whether you want to see more knit or purls.

Here are the stats for Overpass cowl

yarn: 1.5 skeins Spud & Chloë Outer (or other super bulky weight yarn)
needles: 16″ or 20″ size 13 circulars
gauge: 9 stitches and 13 rows per 4 square inches

    • I just found the perfect buttons for a baby sweater I'm knitting. Too bad they are in New Zealand and would cost $10 with shipping.
    • I am knitting a cowl for my aunt, as requested. Argh…it's k1, p1 ad nauseam.
