S’mores Cupcakes

I offered to make my brother cupcakes for his recent birthday – his choice of flavors. I gave him some options and he chose S’mores. So I went searching for recipes. I based my recipe on the Trophy Cupcakes version posted on Martha Stewart.
I thought I’d try to put a marshmallow in the center. Don’t. [...]

Bridal Shower Cupcake Tower

My friend Alexis’s bridal shower was yesterday. She loves cupcakes so I made her a cupcake tower. Normally I’d just decorate with buttercream but these had to travel by car and it’s pretty hot out in the East, so I went with a fondant decoration.
Everyone loved these cupcakes – probably more for the decorations than [...]

Super Sprinkles

Last night I helped my sister make 6 dozen cupcakes. It took about 4hrs with a dinner break but having 2 people definitely makes it go faster. We made chocolate, vanilla, and hummingbird cupcakes. The first two with Swiss meringue buttercream and the latter with cream cheese frosting. However, if you are from Campus [...]

Muppet Cupcakes

I’m not a huge fan of the over decorated cupcakes. In my book, cupcakes should look good but not so amazing that you don’t want to eat it. I think I rescind this rule for the Muppet Cupcake Wedding Tower from UK-based Cupcake Occasions.
AMAZING!

Baking Updates

I have been bad about updating on baking so here’s a quick retrospective of the past few months.
Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Ganache and Buttercream Poinsettas
Obviously these are from Christmastime. Piping poinsettas is pretty easy and quick work.

Lemon Meringue Cupcakes
These cupcakes are from the Martha Stewart Cupcake Book. The cupcake is good but a [...]

Tip for Getting Evenly Sized Cupcakes

Here is my best cupcake making tip..
The best & easiest way to get even cupcakes is to use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to fill your cupcake liners. A measuring cup guarantees that your cupcakes will be evenly sized and I’ve found 1/4 cup to be the perfect size for getting nice moderate domes [...]

Bread Baking

My mom was recently lamenting the lack of good bread around here. So I bought a copy of Peter Reinhart’s Artisan Breads Every Day. I’ve been meaning to try out it out for a few weeks but the recipes generally involve allowing the dough to sit in the fridge overnight, I just hadn’t gotten [...]

Behold the Batter Blaster

I have been secretly coveting Batter Blaster since I spotted it in the refrigerator cases in the local grocery store but it’s $6 for a slightly-larger-than-whipped-cream sized can. But yesterday it was on sale! So I bought it and made some pancakes.
You shake the can up and squirt it out like whipped cream. It [...]

Cupcake Serveware

I have to admit I’m one of those people with a closet full of pedestals, platters, and other serveware. I don’t think I have ever left HomeGoods without buying something. I have a particular affection for finding cute ways to server cupcakes. Here are a few neat ones I’ve seen recently.
White Ceramic Cupcake Stands [...]

Mom’s Red Velvet Birthday Cake

Last week was my mom’s birthday and she requested a red velvet cake. I normally make cupcakes for birthdays but occasionally I do make layer cakes.
I used Magnolia’s Red Velvet Cake recipe. It says it maked 3 9″ rounds but I only had 8″ pans and it turned out fine. The cake was a bit [...]
