Halloween Cupcakes & the Tale of Untintable Buttercream
Have you ever had a baking experience that pretty much start to finish was a disaster? I promised my friend at work that I would bring in cupcakes the Friday before Halloween. This turned out to be an unmitigated disaster.
I decided to make mini chocolate cupcakes with swiss meringue buttercream tinted orange, purple and green. [...]
The Scootabaker’s Layer Cake Tips
My mom requested a red velvet cake for her birthday. I’ve baked them before so I know how, but I was curious for new decorating ideas. Red velvet cakes are often decorated in a more casual even haphazard way. I wanted something pretty and refined looking. I was also concerned about decorating with cream cheese [...]
Halloween Cupcakes from Tina
Check out these adorable cupcakes! They are made by my friend Tina, who lives in New Zealand. I love the ghosts! It’s such simple but awesome idea.
Freezing Cupcakes, Real Results
A few weeks ago I talked about freezing and defrosting cupcakes. Last night I got to taste the results of another frozen cupcake experiment.
A couple of weeks ago I froze six of the carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting that I had made for my Dad’s birthday. I stuck the frosted cupcakes into a tupperware [...]
Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting
Saturday was my dad’s birthday and he requested carrot cake. He got carrot cupcakes.
I used the Carrot Cupcakes recipe from Martha Stewart’s Cupcakes. I omitted the golden raisins and added a cup of toasted chopped walnuts.
Everyone loved them so I think this recipe is a keeper. Here is the online version of the recipe: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/carrot-cake-cupcakes-with-cream-cheese-frosting
Cupcakes for Choice
Today is apparently “National Cupcakes for Life Day“. You are supposed to bake cupcakes for the “one in three children will never celebrate their first birthday due to abortion.”
I feel the need to go home and bake some Cupcakes for Choice.
Defrosting Cupcakes
Defrosting cupcakes?? What a terrible idea! Cupcakes need frosting.
I totally agree, which is why in this case I’m talking about defrosting frozen cupcakes. Sometimes when I make a big batch of cupcakes I freeze some for later. Unless I’m cooking for a party 2 dozen is way too many. Not that they wouldn’t get consumed, [...]
Banana Cupcake Ideas
My dad’s birthday is coming up and I’m already thinking about what I’m going to bake him. He loves his bananas. Seriously, he really loves bananas. So I want to make banana cupcakes.
For Father’s Day I made Martha Stewart’s Roasted Banana Cupcakes with Honey-Cinnamon Frosting. Side Note – I got the recipe from her Cupcakes [...]
Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World
My sister called me up one day this summer and said she needed help making cupcakes for her friend’s bridal shower. I am the master cupcake baker in the family so I said I would help. Then she told me she wanted to make vegan cupcakes. Vegan cupcake baker? Not so much. I really had [...]
Chocolate Cupcakes + White Chocolate Mint Frosting
Here is a recipe for these amazing chocolate cupcakes with white chocolate mint frosting. Make sure you use peppermint oil and not mint oil!
I started off using Grandma’s Chocolate Cake recipe from Cake & Commerce. It was delicious. One of the nice things about it is that it uses vegetable oil instead of butter. My [...]
